    Quelli, almeno, gli avevan lasciato un ricordo: questi gli lasciavano un rammarico profondo, quasi un rimorso... La sua vita si consumava in sè stessa, portando, in sè, la fiamma inestinguibile d'un sol desiderio, l'incurabile disgusto d'ogni altro godimento....
     Talvolta, lo assalivano impeti di cupidigia quasi rabbiosi, disperati ardori verso il piacere....
    ed era come una ribellion violenta del cuore non saziato, come un sussulto della speranza che non si rassegnava a morire......"
